Announcing. . . .The CCS Handbook

The business of carbon capture and storage presents significant new opportunities for the power-generation, oil and gas, and financial services sectors.

PSI Media Inc of Las Vegas (USA) announces a series of special publications to chart the progress and identify business opportunities in rapidly growing markets for technologies that minimize pollutant emissions associated with the use of fossil fuels. These technologies include renewables and nuclear power, which displace traditional primary-energy resources.

The new publications are part of a joint collaboration on editorial projects of mutual interest—ones focusing on the development of sustainable clean-energy resources and conservation strategies and technologies—between PSI Media and Editrice Alkes of Milano. The Italian consultant IPG- Industrial Project Group Srl will assist these publishers from a technical point of view.

A primary goal of the publications and related activities is to create synergies and business connections among stakeholders in the selected countries/regions and their counterparts in the US, Europe, Japan, etc.

The CCS Handbook, scheduled for release in fall 2010, will focus on the technologies, financing, regulatory framework, and permitting processes required to make carbon capture and storage commercially viable for environmental preservation.

The other three publications are designed to identify business opportunities in the power-generation and oil and gas sectors in specific countries and regions with high investment potential. They are (publication dates in parentheses):

CONTENTS, Regional Energy Handbooks
The three country-specific and regional energy handbooks are similar in content, but custom-tailored for the geographic area profiled. Here’s an outline of the material included:

Section 1: Overview of the primary-energy and electricity generation/supply sectors
Section 2: Petroleum sector
Section 3: Other primary energy, including coal, natural gas, shale oil
Section 4: Renewable energy for industrial/institutional heating/cooling and/or small-scale electricity production, including biomass (peat, wood, bagasse), solar, geothermal, wind
Section 5: Electric generation (large scale), including hydro, natural gas/oil, coal, nuclear
Section 6: Electric delivery
Section 7: Investment.
Section 8: Stakeholders.

CONTENT PROVIDERS

These handbooks reflect the close collaboration between two long-term colleagues, each of whom has served the electric-power generation/delivery and oil and gas industries for more than four decades:

> Bob Schwieger, president of PSI Media and editor/publisher of the COMBINED CYCLE Journal, was the former VP/Editorial Director of McGraw-Hill Inc’s energy magazines.

> Giorgio Dodero is chairman of the IPG-Industrial Project Group Srl, the company he founded to specialize in the application of new technologies for the energy industry. The consultancy has particular expertise in coal/heavy-oil gasification cycles and in processes to extract maximum energy from process and powerplant waste streams.

> Schwieger provides the know-how to develop the editorial material and produce the handbooks; Dodero provides project technical direction. They are assisted by in-country and regional experts to assure timely and objective and accurate coverage. The two men honed their skills in the development of energy handbooks while collaborating on a series of highly successful Italian Energy Handbooks in the 1980s and 1990s.
